Frictional Drag in double - layer Devices
The first order contribution to frictional drag in bi-layered fermion gas is examined. We discuss the relevance of single photon exchange in the evaluation of transresistance, which is usually explained by second order effects such as Coulomb and phonon drag. Since the effective e.m. interaction is unscreened, in the d.c. limit we obtain a finite (and large) contribution to transconductivity.
متن کاملStrongly interacting confined quantum systems in one dimension.
In one dimension, the study of magnetism dates back to the dawn of quantum mechanics when Bethe solved the famous Heisenberg model that describes quantum behaviour in magnetic systems. In the last decade, one-dimensional (1D) systems have become a forefront area of research driven by the realization of the Tonks-Girardeau gas using cold atomic gases. Here we prove that 1D fermionic and bosonic ...
متن کاملQuantum magnetism in strongly interacting one-dimensional spinor Bose systems
Strongly interacting one-dimensional quantum systems often behave in a manner that is distinctly different from their higher-dimensional counterparts. When a particle attempts to move in a one-dimensional environment it will unavoidably have to interact and 'push' other particles in order to execute a pattern of motion, irrespective of whether the particles are fermions or bosons. A present fro...
متن کاملSpin Hall drag in electronic bilayers.
We predict a new effect in electronic bilayers: spin Hall drag. The effect consists of the generation of spin accumulation across one layer by an electric current along the other layer. It arises from the combined action of spin-orbit and Coulomb interactions. Our theoretical analysis, based on the Boltzmann equation formalism, identifies two main contributions to the spin Hall drag resistivity...
متن کاملAnomalous coulomb drag in electron-hole bilayers.
We report Coulomb drag measurements on GaAs-AlGaAs electron-hole bilayers. The two layers are separated by a 10 or 25 nm barrier. Below T approximately 1 K we find two features that a Fermi-liquid picture cannot explain. First, the drag on the hole layer shows an upturn, which may be followed by a downturn. Second, the effect is either absent or much weaker in the electron layer, even though th...
